Wrinkles and Getting Older
One of the sad facts of life is that as you get older, things about your body are naturally going to change. One of the most noticed things is that people will get wrinkles on their face. Look at all of the Hollywood celebrities, and you’ll hear for yourself (or in most cases, you’ll be able to see) that they have had “work” done to improve their image.
The problem with getting older is that many of us don’t do it as gracefully as we would like. In fact, most of us resist aging with a passion- a passion so intense that it often causes us to go to financial extremes to do whatever it takes to make our physical appearances acceptable. But at the end of the day, you really have to ask yourself why you are working so hard to improve your image. For the woman who individually plucks out the gray hairs that are coming in at the front of her hairline to the man who secretly purchases hair growth products with the hopes that it will hide the fact that he is slowly starting to go bald…what is it about ourselves that we don’t seem to like?
There are many people who, contrary to popular belief, actually embrace getting older rather well. I used to think that seeing my father get his gray hair in the front of his head made him look somewhat dignified when I was in my late teens. After letting it grow gray for a while, my father decided that he couldn’t stand having gray hair anymore, and that’s when he decided to start dying it. I was somewhat shocked, but I wasn’t that surprised. After all, who knows what I will do when I see my first gray hair growing in…
For people who are worried about getting wrinkles (which is just about everyone nowadays), there are a zillion different face care products out there not to mention all of the day spas that are making a fortune off of other people’s insecurities with their physical self. On a similar note, there are several things that you can do if you want to avoid getting wrinkles. Remember, prevention is better than cure! One of the first things that you can do to reduce your risk is to stay out of the sun! Realistically, it’s impossible not to get UV exposure, so before you go anywhere in the morning or during the day, make sure that you slap on some sunblock really quick. Make sure that it is at least an spf 30 or higher if you know that you are going to be outside for any extended period of time. Also, hats should become your new best friend. If you are a woman, you’re in luck because there are plenty of fashionable hats out for the summer time. Don’t be afraid to test the waters with different styles.
If you go to the beach because you like the sound of the ocean, that’s one thing. However, if you’re going to the beach because you have an upcoming wedding to go to and you don’t want the pictures to look like there’s a glare where your body should be, you should reconsider. All of that sun damage will never be worth it. After all, the damage that you do to your skin isn’t something that you can divorce from.
